Improving the statistical literacy of users through their professional activities
AbstractThe objective of the session is to analyze how statistics can be used by public and/or private professionals in their normal working activity. Evaluating the impact of development policies aimed at encouraging growth both in firms and economically disadvantaged areas requires making use of methodologies which are as scientifically rigorous as possible. This is in order to evaluate and ascertain the extent to which objectives are reached, as specified in the planning phase (indicators relating to quality, impact, process etc).
Improving the techniques currently used is of fundamental importance in arriving at a correct evaluation process. Within such a generalised framework, this session would like to make a number of contributions concerning the use of statistical methodologies used by experts who also work directly with evaluating the impact of development policies.
